Hello, everyone….and welcome to our summer mixing workshop!
I hope you’re well, and that you’ve been mixing up a storm since we worked together last. I'm SO excited that you want to join us this summer for the mixing workshop. I cannot wait to hear the music you’ve been making and mixing!
It really is an honor for me to help the engineers/producers in this community progress even further as master mixers, and I’m confident by the end of this workshop you’ll be on the path to making exactly the records you’re striving to create. We’ll be building the mixing skills and the process that take great records to the finish line... and we'll be doing it together.
I remember what it was like to feel lost with my mixes - always doubting whether the mix was good enough, working for hours on end and only sometimes getting to a final result I was happy with. It’s taken years to become masterful in my work, and now that I’ve gotten here it really is honor for me to help others cross the line into a mastery of their craft as well. This is where you join the community of professionals and the real payoffs and magic happen, and that is what this workshop is all about.
I was honestly a bit surprised by the positive response to my Facebook poll about the workshop, and I’m sorry I haven’t done this sooner. It was humbling to realize how much more our community desired to grow and become accomplished as mixers, and hard to know I could have been doing more all along. That changes now, and I’m putting a lot of thoughtful effort into how I can best support everyone’s music in this workshop.
So, all that said…here are the deets!
Weekly live chats for mixing instruction: Each week, I’ll be hosting live Facebook video chats to show you whatever mixing skills you like. I’ll be using Audiomovers.com for sound so you have high quality audio, and as always the skills we cover will be geared towards what you need on any given week. *No purchase necessary, you will just receive a web URL to tune in.
Bi-Weekly mix submissions for feedback: Every OTHER week, you’ll be submitting a mix to a secondary Facebook Group that is dedicated only for mixes and feedback. You will submit the mix by Sunday at midnight on our even weeks (July 14, July 28, August 11, + August 25). You will then spend Monday + Tuesday giving feedback to one another’s mixes and updating your own, with my feedback coming Wednesday + Thursday.
An opportunity for professional mixing credit: This is the addition for workshop I am most excited about. For the mixes you’ll be working on, I’m gathering tracks from artists in my community here in New York City to include for class. The artists themselves will listen to everyone’s final mixes, and if they like one they will release it! Mixing credits are one of the best ways to fuel your career, and I’m so grateful to offer the opportunity for just that.
Flexibility to fit to your own career: You will also have the option of mixing whatever you like for the 4 mixes, you are not tied to the artists mixes I provide. If you have a project you’re working on that you would like to workshop before you release, you are absolutely welcome to use those mixes for your 4 class mixes. And if neither of these options work for you, I’m going to point everyone towards a few wonderful sites I’ve found with free educational mix material.
Rachel Alina ProTools Mix Session: I will be including one of my own mix files for you to have and learn from. You’ll be able to download the original files, along with my final mix, so you can pick through and see how I got there.
I’m offering two levels of access to the workshop: Full Access + Limited Access. I know we all have busy schedules, and I want to make this community available to everyone regardless of schedule this summer. So I’m offering two levels of access: full and limited.
With Full Access, you will have access to everything described above: weekly chats, bi-weekly mixes, professional multi-tracks (and the opportunity to mix for professional credit!), and one of my very own mixing sessions.
With Limited Access, you will only gain access to the general workshop Facebook Group, as well as be part of weekly chats, and receive a copy of my mixing session.
I do hope you’ll join us. And as always…happy mixing!
