natty release the fear

Natty's highly anticipated full length 'Release The Fear' is finally out! This album has been 7 years in the making, and I was fortunate enough to be involved in the mixes along the way.

Natty and I tucked into a private mountain studio just outside of Woodstock, NY for a 10 day mix session back in March 2014. We also got a few days on the Helios at Waterfront too, and I mastered the album at my Allen Street Studio in the end. The album is stunning, check it out.

all about that bass

Well guys, I had a big f*!@'in AH-HA moment the other night. I had spent the day mixing an indie/rock singer-songwriter track, which I cleaned up a lot of unnecessary low end from (50/80hz cuts on guitars etc), and was thinking about how I never do that when I mix reggae. I've never thought too much about why I don't, it just feels weird when I pop a filter in so I leave all that low end in to do it's thing.

And then it hit me - Helios consoles were all custom and unique. I texted a friend in Jamaica who's restoring an original Helios from the 70s that was integral in reggae roots recording. He sent me a pic of the eq ---- NO FILTER SWITCH for a low end cut. 💥💥💥
